Digital (downloadable) sheet music for "Four Pastoral Preludes quasi improvisando" for solo piano by Martin Lass.
This is a contemporary classical work, i.e. classical art music, written for the concert stage or recital space.
Although the score is very meticulous in its tempo indications, dynamic markings, pedal markings, and more, as the title suggests, the work is meant to give the impression of being improvising on the spot. Its pastoral quality is, in part, given by extensive use of all manner of pentatonic scales and extensions of these.
Aside from being suitable for the professional concert soloist, this work would be suitable for an advanced student as an Own Choice piece in an A.M.E.B. Repertoire Exam (Australia). Preludes 1 & 2 work well together with a duration of about 4 mins; and Preludes 3 & 4 can be played together with a duration of about 5m 45s.
Total duration of the piece is about 9m 45s.
